in the Women's Wellness Center at Mission Hospital
Metastatic & Recurrent Breast Cancer Support Group
Mission Viejo, California
I could not be honored more! It was my pleasure to be a part of the Metastatic & Recurrent Breast Cancer Support Group at the Women's Center in Mission Hospital. What a strong, beautiful group of women! This group is lead by Lori Ash, LCSW (second from the right holding the book) and what a wonderful job she does. Such support groups are so special and take a very special women to organize, run and lead them. She is kind, warm and gives you a sense of calm as she talks to the group, leads them in their discussions and provides them with information. I spent the afternoon listening to these beautiful women and their stories of their journey with cancer. These stories included triumphs, difficulties and sharing their wisdom helping others to get through the treatments and worries that come with this disease.
When I am able to speak to group's such as this one, I always head into the group with the hope that "I" will be able to help them with lessons from my journey, and lessons from my book and how I coped. But the fact is I always, always leave humbled, and feeling so blessed that I was able to be a part of this moment, this second in time that I was safe to share with and honored to see them move forward in their journey.
The traveling book is traveling the world for survivors and supporters signatures, and has made some amazing stops! In the end the book will carry names of those who have fought and won, who have fought and lost their battles and those who have stood by them with love, understanding, friendship and hope. And I am grateful, honored, and will always keep close to my heart these women who have signed the book and who, for a moment, I was able to be in their beautiful, courageous light.
No one chooses cancer, no one ask for this disease and through the treatments, the surgeries, the fears, the triumphs and the loses, it is how we handled it that counts! It is how we stand up, fight, keep our head above water, laugh, cry and get through the battle with this monster with our soul intact and our head held high!
What a perfect stop for the book to make as its journey continues!!
Thank you ladies for sharing your courage and strength with not only me, but the world!
